Newly promoted club Durban City have let go of their head coach, Gavin Hunt, despite being in a comfortable eighth position almost halfway into the 2025/26 Premier Soccer League (PSL) season.

Hunt’s stay with the KwaZulu-Natal club was brief; just four months into his reign, and he has reportedly had clashes with Durban City boss Farook Kadodia over issues related to transfer strategy, amongst other things.

The club has formally notified Hunt that his time is up, with Durban City ready to publicly announce the split.

The news of his departure broke on Monday, a couple of days after the team lost 2-0 to Orlando Pirates at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in a Betway Premiership encounter.

The results appear to have had no bearing on the club’s decision, given the fact that Durban City have won five, drawn four, and lost five in 14 outings, which could be considered a decent return for a side in their first season in the top flight.

According to SABC Sport, chairman Farook Kadodia and Hunt have clashed over the club’s long-term planning, recruitment strategy, and broader football philosophy.
