Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has called on the critics to “just shut up” ahead of South Africa’s second match at the World Cup.
Broos’s men will battle Czech Republic on Thursday evening in Atlanta, USA, after a disastrous 2-0 defeat to co-hosts Mexico a week ago.
The Belgian was heavily criticised for setting out a formation that had five defenders and three central midfielders against the Mexicans. Broos, however, is having none of it.
“You know, I’m nearly 40 years as a coach, and I know there is a side on your job that you are criticised,” Broos told the media in Atlanta.
“So for the moment I’m criticised but people have to know for those who still don’t know it, I do it my way and I never listen to the trash of the social media. I never listen to people who sometimes think that they are important and have to criticise the team. So when I’m going to see what they did before, I think it should be better that they shut up.
“So again, again, I know what went wrong. I know we had a debriefing two days after the game in Mexico. The players know it and that’s the most important thing,” he continued.
“For the rest I will do it my way. If tomorrow they want this one or another one or a third one in the team and I don’t agree, they will not be in the team.”
Broos admitted that the Czech encounter is a must-win match for Bafana, who are ranked 61st in the world, against their opponents, who are in 40th spot.
