Indonesia is hosting a ten-day training programme on trade policy in Jakarta for representatives from six African countries, according to ANTARA.

Sixteen representatives from Rwanda, Mozambique, Tanzania, South Sudan, Somalia, and Ethiopia are taking part. They will learn how to streamline trade procedures, develop exports, conduct negotiations and promote national products in overseas markets. Particular attention will be paid to supporting small and medium-sized enterprises and regional cooperation.

Participants will visit Indonesian government institutions and learn about the country’s experience in developing trade and regional ties.

The Head of Indonesia’s Trade Human Resources Development Agency, Djatmiko Bris Witjaksono, noted that Africa is of considerable interest to the country due to its population, natural resources, and trade and investment potential. According to him, Indonesia is ready to expand cooperation not only in trade but also in the field of vocational education.

Trade links between Indonesia and African countries are also gradually expanding. Indonesia is already implementing a preferential trade agreement with Mozambique and has concluded negotiations on a similar agreement with Tunisia.

Two trade and industry centres – in Johannesburg and Lagos – as well as a trade mission in Egypt are responsible for promoting Indonesian products in African markets. Among the goods that the country hopes to promote more actively in the region are foodstuffs, footwear, textiles, paper products and motor vehicles.
