Police have launched a manhunt for 41-year-old James Mohajane, who is wanted in connection with the brutal murder of three people, including his girlfriend, in Moeka Vuma near Makapanstad in the North West.

Mohajane is wanted for the alleged murder of his girlfriend, Moipone Lefoka, her sister, Esther Lefoka, and Esther’s boyfriend, Tshepo Molekwa.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) said the three victims were allegedly last seen together at Molekwa’s house before their bodies were discovered there on Sunday morning.

Police said the victims had allegedly been hacked to death with a spade.

Mohajane was nowhere to be found when police arrived at the scene. His cellphone was, however, found at the crime scene.

“The motive for the killings is still under investigation,” SAPS national spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said.

The killings come as police intensify efforts to combat Gender Based Violence and Femicide and serious and violent crimes against women, children and vulnerable groups during Women’s Month.

Police have appealed to members of the public to assist investigators in locating Mohajane.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts has been urged to contact Sergeant Nhlapo on 078 918 7746.

Police have warned members of the public not to approach or confront Mohajane if they spot him.

“Members of the public are urged not to approach or confront the suspect, but to immediately provide information to the police,” Mathe said.

The motive behind the triple killing remains unknown, with investigators continuing to establish what led to the deaths.

Police are also expected to examine evidence recovered from the scene, including Mohajane’s cellphone, as they work to establish his movements and whereabouts.

SAPS has not provided further details on the circumstances leading up to the alleged killings or indicated whether there had been previous incidents involving Mohajane and any of the victims.

The investigation remains ongoing as police continue searching for the wanted suspect.

Mathe said the police service remained committed to tackling violent crime and protecting women and other vulnerable groups.

“SAPS reiterates its commitment to intensifying efforts to prevent and combat GBVF and violent crime, particularly crimes targeting women and vulnerable groups,” she said.

The police have urged anyone who may have information that could assist in locating Mohajane to come forward.

Mohajane remains at large as investigators continue with the manhunt.
