Al Ahly’s new coach, José Riveiro, has shared his thoughts on the move for the first time since his appointment recently.
Riveiro joined the Red Devils following a three-year stint with Orlando Pirates.
The Buccaneers allowed Riveiro to leave early, with just over a month remaining on his contract. He then concluded a two-year deal with Al Ahly, and the parties were clearly on the same page from the onset, with the deal going through without a hitch.
“I think my success with Orlando Pirates was the reason why Al Ahly signed me. Negotiations were fast, and I was very happy because Al Ahly club contacted me,” said Riveiro on Al Ahly TV, aired on Tuesday.
The Spaniard appears ready to hit the ground running with the 12-time CAF Champions League winners, who are leaving Cairo for the United States to participate in the FIFA Club World Cup.
“I know that the concept of football in Egypt is different from that of South Africa, but I am ready to deal with it. Al Ahly’s culture is winning, and I’m ready to implement that strategy,” he said.
“We won’t change much. I will continue to let Al Ahly achieve success. The team’s DNA is there already. The youth are the future, so we will blend with experience.
“I want to help Al Ahly players perform at their best, and our ambition is to win all the tournaments we will participate in, and our goal is to keep Al Ahly’s record of winning trophies and constantly make the fans happy.”
