Kaizer Chiefs Face Ghana’s Most Decorated Club

Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed yet another pre-season friendly, coming up against one of the African giants.

Amakhosi announced on Thursday that they will take on Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko SC in this year’s Toyota Cup.

“The match is set for Saturday, 26 July 2025, at Moses Mabhida Stadium. The fixture brings together two clubs with proud legacies, passionate fan bases, and a shared place in the heritage of African football,” said Chiefs.

The Toyota Cup made its debut in 2024 with Kaizer Chiefs hosting Tanzanian champions Young Africans in Bloemfontein, with Chiefs losing 4-0.

“We are honoured to welcome our friends from Ghana to South African soil. Asante Kotoko are part of our shared history. The Toyota Cup allows Africa to unite through football and is a celebration of our legacy,” says Jessica Motaung, Marketing and Commercial Director at Kaizer Chiefs.

Asante Kotoko are one of Africa’s most decorated clubs with 50 official trophies including two CAF Champions League titles.

“It is with great joy and anticipation that we come to South Africa for the 2025 edition of the Toyota Cup. Football has always been a powerful bridge between people and nations, and this event shows what is possible when sport is supported by vision and purpose. We are proud to be part of this celebration of African unity and commend Toyota and Kaizer Chiefs for setting the standard for what African football can be,” says Edmund Awuah Asafu-Adjaye (Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awuah), Chairman of Asante Kotoko SC.

Tickets for the event will go on sale from 26 June 2025 for R80 and will be available at Shoprite, Checkers, and Usave outlets nationwide as well as online.

SABC will be the official broadcaster for the clash.

Before the clash against Asante Kotoko, Chiefs will have their pre-season camp in the Netherlands and will play friendlies there against; Vitesse (8 July), FC Utrecht (11 July), Nijmegen (12 July), Zwolle (15 July) and Twente (16 July).
