The ANC Youth League in KwaZulu-Natal has suspended its Provincial Secretary, Lulama Mabude, following allegations of misconduct.
Mabude’s suspension was formally communicated by the league on Wednesday, after weeks of silence.
In the statement, the league said the decision to suspend Mabude was taken on 21 February 2026, but did not exactly state the allegations against her.
“Following comprehensive deliberations on matters affecting the stability, functionality, and organisational discipline of the African National Congress Youth League in KwaZulu-Natal, the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) resolved to institute a formal investigation into allegations pertaining to the conduct of the Office of the Provincial Secretary.
“In this context, the PEC proposed as an interim measure, and in light of the seriousness of the alleged constitutional breaches, to effect a precautionary suspension of the Provincial Secretary, Lulama Mabude. In order to safeguard the integrity, independence, and credibility of the investigative process. Subsequent to this proposal, Comrade Mabude elected or voluntarily decided to recuse herself with immediate effect from her duties of being the Provincial Secretary until all processes of investigation are concluded,” the league said in the statement.
It added that the next step would be a disciplinary hearing.
“The Disciplinary Committee led by the office of the Provincial Deputy Chairperson Cde Phindile Mdanda has since formally served the Office of the Provincial Secretary with a charge sheet detailing the allegations presented before the PEC.
“Furthermore, upon the advice of the Office of the Deputy Chairperson, Comrade Mabude has been instructed to appear before the Disciplinary Committee on 21 March 2026 for the purposes of the investigation. Accordingly, and pending the outcome of these processes, Comrade Mabude will not represent the ANCYL in KwaZulu-Natal in any capacity until a final determination has been made.
Mabude is yet to publicly comment about the matter.
