Premier League club Liverpool has not taken kindly to Mohamed Salah’s bombshell after he was benched over the weekend.
The Egyptian made the headlines for all the wrong reasons as he reacted to being benched for the third consecutive time, as Liverpool played out a 3-3 draw with Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday.
To make matters worse, the reigning champions are battling in ninth spot after 15 matches.
“I’ve been sitting on the bench for 90 minutes; I think that’s the third time I’ve been on the bench. I think it’s the first time in my career, but I’m very disappointed. I’m very, very disappointed, to be fair,” ranted Salah in a post-match interview.
“I have done so much for this club; everybody can see that during the years, and especially last season.”
“Sitting on the bench, I don’t know why; it seems like the club has thrown me under the bus. That’s how I feel about it. I think it’s very clear that someone wants me to get all the blame. The club promised me a lot in the summer (when signing a new contract) and delivered nothing. So far, I’m on the bench three games,” added the 33-year-old, further claiming his relationship with the manager, Arne Slot, is “broken.”
“I’m just going to be in Anfield, say goodbye to the fans, and go to the Africa Cup (of Nations) because I don’t know what’s going to happen when I’m there.”
Liverpool are understood to have called for Salah to issue a public apology, while there are also claims that he could be axed.
Salah is on a two-year contract with the Reds after signing the deal in April.
He will join up with Egypt for the Africa Cup of Nations on December 15.
