Despite winning, Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso is not a happy man and has called out the Premier Soccer League (PSL) over their fixtures.
Cardoso was speaking after Sundowns beat Orbit College 2-0 in the North West on Tuesday evening.
The source of Cardoso’s unhappiness relates to the PSL scheduling Sundowns fixtures close to their CAF Champions League matches.
“I think today is a little bit a dark day for football in South Africa,” said Cardoso.
“And we are not pleased about the situation that we were put in. It’s clear. I think no one should be in South Africa able to play a Champions League match and have to play a championship (league) match three days before.”
Sundowns will host Malian side, Stade Malien, on Friday in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals.
“I think it’s something that South Africa needs to think about. Everybody should be provided conditions to be successful in representing the country in the international level, and we are not rewarded with that blessing.”
The Portuguese has previously spoken out about the fixture congestion, which has seen Sundowns play a lot of matches at home and on the continent in a short period.
Sundowns are top of the domestic standings, while in the last eight of the Champions League.
