Wydad Casablanca have unveiled Patrice Carteron as their new head coach to succeed Mohamed Benhachem.
Carteron has signed for until the end of the season with a reported salary of 700,000 dirhams (R1.3 million) per month for himself and his staff.
The two parties have also agreed on an option for a further season. He will secure an automatic renewal should he secure the league title.
Carteron has coached some big clubs on the African continent, having guided TP Mazembe, Al Ahly, Raja Club Athletic, and Zamalek.
His list of achievements on the continent includes a CAF Champions League gold medal with TP Mazembe in 2015, while he has also won league titles in DR Congo and Egypt.
Meanwhile, Benhachem’s time ran out following Wydad’s exit from the CAF Confederation Cup, losing to fellow Moroccan side Olympic De Safi in the Quarterfinals.
“Wydad Athletic Club informs its loyal supporters and all members of the club that it has decided to part ways with Mr. Mohamed Amine Benhachem as head coach of the first team, by mutual consent between both parties,” the club announced in a statement.
“We extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to Mr. Mohamed Amine Benhachem for all the efforts he made during his time in charge of the team, wishing him success and prosperity in his future professional career.”
Benhachem had been the head coach since last year, before making way for Carteron.
