Mozambican health authorities have reported a total of 13 positive Mpox cases from 37 individuals tested nationwide, raising concerns over the potential spread of the disease.

The figures were disclosed on Sunday by the Ministry of Health. This tally upped from the six on Saturday.

According to the latest update, 15 people are currently in quarantine as a precautionary measure, while health officials continue to trace contacts and monitor suspected cases. No fatalities linked to the outbreak have been reported so far.

The Ministry said the confirmed cases are being closely followed by medical teams and urged the public to remain calm, follow hygiene protocols, and report any symptoms consistent with Mpox.

Mpox, formerly known as monkeypox, is a viral disease that can cause fever, rash, and swollen lymph nodes. Though rarely fatal, it can spread through close physical contact, bodily fluids, and contaminated materials.

Authorities have not disclosed the specific locations of the positive cases but affirmed that all necessary epidemiological investigations are underway to contain the spread.

The Ministry of Health reiterated that it is working in coordination with provincial health services and international partners to respond effectively and safeguard public health.
