The traditional leader of the Nyuswa clan near Hillcrest in the west of Durban has been hit with a default judgment to pay back R100,000 plus interest to a Durban company.

Inkosi Muziwenhlanhla Ngcobo (38) was ordered by the Durban Magistrate’s Court to pay back the money after he defaulted for over two years and breached an undertaking to pay the loan in several instalments.

According to court papers, Inkosi Ngcobo borrowed the money from a company called Afri-Risse Group owned by Durban businesswoman Nokukhanya Buyi Cele.

It is not clear in the papers why he borrowed the money and what led to him not paying it as agreed upon.

However, it appears in the court papers that Cele and her company later roped in their lawyers to chase Ngcobo after he failed to pay them. It was later agreed in October 2024 that he should pay it in six instalments, and he still failed to honour the arrangement.

He was then dragged to court and on 18 July 2026, under case number 977/2026, the court issued a default judgment forcing him to pay.

“Default judgment granted in favour of the Plaintiff (Afri-Rise/Cele) against the Defendant (Ngcobo) as follows:

“1. Payment of R100 000.00, interest thereon at 10.5% p/a from 1 December 2025 to the date of full and final payment. Costs in the amount of R3258. 40,” the court ruled.

Inkosi had not commented at the time this report was compiled.
