Exciting winger Monnapule Saleng has departed Orlando Pirates in favour of a loan move.
Pirates have confirmed that the 27-year-old will spend the 2025/26 season at newly promoted Betway Premiership side Orbit College, in the North West province.
“Orlando Pirates can confirm that an agreement has been reached with Orbit College FC for the loan of Monnapule Saleng,” announced the Buccaneers on Wednesday evening.
Behind the scenes, Saleng was reportedly not on the same page with the club, leading to rumours he was unhappy that the club allegedly blocked his move to Egyptian club Al Ahly, while other reports painted a not so clear picture pertaining to salary issues, which were never proven.
Saleng’s agency went as far as releasing a statement in February, addressing the rumours.
“We are aware of the ongoing speculation surrounding our client, Monnapule Saleng. While we have refrained from making public comments due to the sensitive and confidential nature of the matter, our silence should not be misconstrued as an endorsement of the narrative being presented against him,” read the statement by P Management Sports, at the time.
“This matter involves significant issues at the core of the employer-employee relationship that require resolution. Our client remains committed to addressing these matters through the appropriate legal and professional channels.
“Given the confidentiality of the matter, we will not be engaging in further public discussions. Our priority remains to act in our client’s interests while advocating for a fair and amicable resolution. We trust that the proper processes will lead to an outcome that serves the best interests of all parties involved.”
Saleng featured a paltry 13 times for Pirates in the 2024/25 season, across all competitions, and the supporters are certainly up in arms that he’s exited the Pirates building. Such is his popularity.
He played 70 games for the Soweto team, with a goal contribution of 42 (25 goals and 17 assists).
Meanwhile, Pirates also confirmed the departure of midfielder Phillip Ndlondlo. The 28-year-old is now free to sign with a club of his choice.
Ndlondlo, who joined the Buccaneers in 2022, made 65 appearances in the black and white kit.
