Lusaka – NRPUP presidential candidate Brian Mundubile has claimed victory in Zambia’s presidential election, saying results from his party’s Parallel Voter Tabulation (PVT) show him leading the race.

In a video shared on 14 August, Mundubile said his party had compiled results from polling stations and tallying centres across the country and was confident of victory.

“The people of Zambia voted. Their decision must be respected,” Mundubile said in a video shared widely on social media.

He also raised concerns over alleged irregularities at some totalling centres and called on the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to publish results transparently and allow stakeholders to verify the figures.

Meanwhile, President Hakainde Hichilema has stopped short of declaring victory, saying his camp is receiving “encouraging results.”

“We continue to receive encouraging results and reports of peace, unity and solidarity across our country as the votes come in,” Hichilema said in a statement.

He urged Zambians to remain peaceful, patient and patriotic while awaiting the official outcome from the ECZ.

The competing claims come as counting and verification continue across the country, with the ECZ expected to announce the official presidential result by Monday, 17 August.
