Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has expressed huge concern over his “bloated” squad.
The Cityzens’ first trophyless season since 2017 has Guardiola putting on his thinking cap and in conclusion, he’d rather work with a smaller squad despite City’s spending power.
“I told the club I don’t want a big squad. I don’t want to put five, six players in the tribune, I don’t want that. I will quit,” said Guardiola, whose side was nowhere near its best during the 2024/25 campaign.
Premier League sides can name a 25-man squad, but teams can also include U21 players, who are eligible over and above the squad limit. City boasts a 28-man squad and reading between the lines, Guardiola is having a hard time managing it.
“If they don’t make a short squad, I will not stay. It’s impossible for my soul to put players in the tribune and cannot play,” he added.
