KwaZulu-Natal police have made it clear they’ll crack the whip on unruly football fans before the Nedbank Cup final.
Fans across the country are up in arms after failing to get tickets for the match between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates scheduled for Saturday at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
It has been a week to forget for Open Tickets, the ticketing service provider, on behalf of Computicket.
Moses Mabhida’s approved capacity is 49,307 seats, but because of system issues, there was an over-sell of approximately 10,500 tickets and those people will have to settle for refunds.
Unfortunately, some claim they have spent thousands booking flights and accommodation, insisting they’d still make their way to Durban without tickets on hand.
However, the police have sent a warning to anyone planning to disrupt proceedings.
“As the SAPS (South African Police Service), we will be very strict on the ground,” stated KwaZulu-Natal deputy police commissioner responsible for policing and operations, Maj-Gen Phumelele Makoba, as quoted by the Sowetan newspaper.
“If you know that you don’t have tickets to watch the game, rather stay away or go somewhere else where you can watch the match (on TV) instead of coming to the stadium to cause unnecessary conflict,” he added.
