South African coach Rulani Mokwena has hit the ground running in Libyan football with three victories.
The 39-year-old recently teamed up with Al-Ittihad SC, whom he has already guided in three matches, resulting in three wins.
Al-Ittihad beat Al Tersana 2-0 on Wednesday to move up to 38 points from 14 games, sitting 11 points clear at the top of Group 2.
In their first League encounter under Mokwena, he led Al-Ittihad to a 4-1 home win against Shabab Al-Ghar.
Mokwena made a winning start when Al-Ittihad thumped Abu Salim 4-1 in the Libyan Cup, before the two wins in the League.
He is on a two-year contract with the Tripoli-based outfit, with expectations to win trophies with the first team, while keeping a close eye on the reserve team to ensure young Libyan players make it to the top.
“There’s a lot more from a sporting perspective; there’s a lot more from a possibility to do more, to stretch myself more, to test myself more, to challenge ourselves more, to work with, again, with people who have made incredible sacrifices and contributions to me also personally, and to also look to help those people to also expand their careers and grow more,” said Mokwena.
