Saudi Arabia has announced the establishment of a pioneering international water research centre, designed to tackle critical global water challenges.

Unveiled during Sustainability Innovation Week at the UNCCD COP16 conference, the initiative was introduced under the patronage of Abdulrahman Abdulmohsen AlFadley, the Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture. This is reported by Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

This centre, created in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), aims to become a global hub for advanced research and innovation in water-related fields.

Its primary focus will include water economics, security, pollution control, cutting-edge treatment technologies, and digital monitoring systems, addressing the pressing issues of sustainable water management in arid and semi-arid regions.

During a high-level panel discussion, the Ministry underscored the centre’s mission to provide a collaborative platform for academics and experts worldwide.

The initiative seeks to develop transformative solutions for water scarcity and environmental sustainability while advancing state-of-the-art technologies in water treatment and production.
