One of South Africa’s biggest talents, Relebohile Mofokeng, could be on the move, African Times has learnt.
Fondly known as Rele, the 20-year-old may reunite with his age mate Mohau Nkota in the Saudi Pro League, depending on negotiations for his services.
Nkota was sold by Orlando Pirates to Al-Ettifaq barely a week ago, and the Saudis are back at the negotiating table with the Buccaneers, and this time, for arguably Pirates’ most prized possession, Mofokeng.
This publication can confirm Al-Ettifaq has put in an offer, and the two clubs have engaged in talks, and those privy to these specific transfer talks have reason to believe it’s only a matter of time before the two parties agree to terms for his transfer.
Mofokeng has been a Pirates player to watch since his debut in May 2023, in a match against the now-defunct Royal AM at the Orlando Stadium, Soweto.
The Sharpeville-born Gauteng winger has gone on to make 89 appearances for Bucs, having come through the DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) team.
In terms of goal contributions, Mofokeng has scored 18 and assisted 22 for a total of 40, and for a player of his age, that’s good going.
The forward is a product of the SAFA-Transnet School of Excellence, where he was scouted by Pirates ahead of the 2022/23 season.
Mofokeng has been capped eight times at the senior national team level, Bafana Bafana, since his debut against Zimbabwe in June last year.
