Gubis 85, the security company accused of illegally scoring dubious security tenders at the Tshwane Metro on an ad hoc basis, has broken its silence.

Through its attorney, Saney Mbatha, the company issued a statement denying the allegations and said the “one-sided” testimonies had damaged its reputation.

The company came to light during the testimony of Revo Spies, the Deputy Chief of Police for Asset Protection and Security Services at the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD).

Spies told the commission that within a short period of time, the security company registered at an address in Centurion scored R59 million to guard 37 sites owned by the City of Tshwane.

In all these cases, the tenders were awarded on an emergency basis. It later turned out that at some point the company got paid after the intervention of Sergeant Fannie Nkosi, the controversial bodyguard of General Shadrack Sibiya, who is now behind bars for unrelated cases.

Now the company says it wants its day at the Madlanga Commission to give its side of the story.

“The allegations made in the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry were made without prior notice to GUBIS85 PTY LTD. The one-sided publication of these unsubstantiated claims has caused significant reputational damage to our company. We intend to respond fully to these allegations and cooperate with all legitimate inquiries into our business conduct, which we are confident will provide the public with a fair and complete perspective.

“To address the prejudice caused by the unbalanced publication of these allegations, we have proactively taken the following steps: We have approached the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry to request the sworn statements of witnesses from which the allegations appear to originate.

“Upon obtaining these statements, we will provide detailed and direct responses to each allegation,” the company said.

It added that its business practices are ethical.

“We state categorically that GUBIS85 PTY LTD has conducted its business with integrity and in full accordance with the law. Our company has invested millions in building extensive infrastructure, expertise, and professionalism.

“As a wholly black-owned enterprise, we are acutely aware that our sustainability depends on the non-negotiable principles of compliance, professionalism, integrity, and credibility. We fully accept that our business should be subject to scrutiny, but we expect such scrutiny to be fair, balanced, and credible,” it added.
