Tanzanian club Simba will contest the CAF Confederation Cup final against Moroccan outfit RB Berkane next month.

Led by South African coach Fadluraghman “Fadlu” Davids, the East Africans have waited over three decades to reach a continental final.

In 1993, Simba was a finalist in the CAF Cup (later renamed Confederation Cup) and settled for a silver medal after losing the two-legged final against Stella Adjamé from the Ivory Coast.

Fast forward to 2025, and Davids’s men have achieved what many would have considered mission impossible at the start of the tournament.

There’s one more hurdle for Simba to clear, and that comes in the form of Berkane, who are the two-time winners of this competition (2020 and 2022).

Last year, Berkane, who are guided by astute coach Mouin Chaâbani, had to settle for second place after losing the final to Egyptian side Zamalek.

The first leg will be played in Morocco on 17 May, before Simba hosts the return leg on their own turf on 25 May.

The winner is guaranteed US$2,000,000 (R37.3 million), and the runners-up will bank US$1,000,000 (R18.6 million).
