South Africa’s Mining Output Grows By 9.9% Year-On-Year In February 2024

According to Stats SA, iron ore was the largest contributor to growth over the period, up 42.9 per cent, contributing 5.1 percentage points.

Coal, South Africa’s main source of energy for power generation, also rose by 14.6 per cent, contributing 3.7 percentage points, while chrome ore production rose by 20.6 per cent, adding one percentage point.

According to the statistics agency’s report, seasonally adjusted mining output in February was up five per cent from the previous month. This is reported by Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.

This was followed by a month-on-month change of 0.4 per cent in January 2024 and minus four per cent in December 2023.
