Betway Premiership club SuperSport United has new owners ahead of the 2025/26 season, subject to approval by the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

According to information at our disposal, Matsatsantsa have been sold to a businessman from Bloemfontein, and as per other reports, he has paid R50 million.

Speculation was rife recently that SuperSport United was on the verge of being sold, but this was flatly denied by insiders at the club.

However, this publication is privy to information that the sale is now in the hands of the Premier Soccer League (PSL), with its executive committee expected to ratify it sooner rather than later.

The three-time PSL champions will be sold as a going concern, meaning the new owner, who’s yet to be named, will inherit its assets and debts.

In the meantime, African Times has on a few occasions attempted to get comment from SuperSport United chief executive Stanley Matthews, but to no avail.

The buying or selling of PSL statuses is a regular occurrence in South African football.

More recently, national first division club JDR Stars was sold to a businessman from the Sekhukhune district, Lester Makatoane.

Over the years, clubs that have exchanged hands include Moroka Swallows, Cape Town All Stars, Free State Stars, Bloemfontein Celtic, Bidvest Wits, Highlands Park, and Platinum Stars, just to name a few.

SuperSport United are yet to release an official statement.
