Mamelodi Sundowns have announced they have extended their contract with midfielder Themba Zwane.
The 36-year-old has penned a new one-year deal, until June 2027, with the Tshwane club, with an option to renew for a further year.
He has been with the new CAF Champions League winners since 2011, having joined from amateur club Vardos.
Zwane had a tough season with injuries limiting him to just 23 appearances across all competitions. He mostly came from the bench, but the extension is seen as the club’s reward for his service through the years and loyalty.
He is regarded by the Sundowns faithful as a legend and rightly so. Over the years, he has made 445 appearances for the Brazilians, scoring 80 goals and creating 61 assists. He’s won nine League titles, plus two Champions League titles.
For now, though, he is expected to help out Bafana Bafana during the FIFA 2026 World Cup after making the final 26-man squad announced by head coach Hugo Broos this week.
The Tembisa-born playmaker has played 53 times for South Africa’s senior national team, Bafana Bafana.
