Wydad Casablanca’s player of the month for March, Thembinkosi Lorch, was in his element as he settled a big match on Saturday.

Third-placed Wydad hosted AS FAR, who are second, fully aware that failure to collect maximum points would be detrimental to their chances of finishing second and qualifying for the 2025/26 CAF Champions League.

With the score at 1-1, Lorch stepped up and fired home in the 67th minute to hand Wydad the win at the Stade Larbi Zaouli.

Wydad is now three points behind AS FAR with two matches remaining.

This was their first match since the departure of South African coach Rulani Mokwena, who is on special leave and will officially part ways with the club at the end of the Botola season.

Lorch, meanwhile, is on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns, and with Wydad considering making the deal permanent, he’s not doing his chances of a longer stay any harm.

He’s already played over 10 matches for the North Africans, who have warmed up to him, despite the fact that the man who brought him to the club, Mokwena, is gone.
