Ethiopia will take an active part in the main BRICS events in 2026, which will be chaired by India. This was stated by India’s ambassador to Ethiopia, Anil Kumar Rai, in an exclusive comment to ENA, a partner of TV BRICS.
According to the ambassador, Ethiopia is making a significant contribution to the work of the association and is ready to further share its experience. The country plans to present its achievements in sustainable development, urban renewal and green technologies.
Anil Kumar Rai outlined the priorities of India’s BRICS chairmanship: developing innovation and supporting developing countries’ own growth models. He noted that Ethiopia’s participation will strengthen South-South cooperation and enrich the work of BRICS with practical solutions.
Bilateral cooperation will also receive special attention. Ethiopia and India plan to deepen collaboration in healthcare, agriculture and food security.
“We are ready to share advanced technologies in agriculture. These include effective nano-fertilisers, modern seed technology, food processing technology, and climate-tolerant varieties,” the ambassador added.
Cooperation will expand to artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation. India has invited Ethiopian representatives to an industry summit in February.
Another area of cooperation will be digital transformation. India is ready to share its experience in building modern infrastructure. This aligns with Ethiopia’s national digital transformation strategy, Digital Ethiopia 2030. The ambassador also noted the potential for cooperation in the banking sector and fintech.
India assumed the BRICS chairmanship on 1 January 2026. Ethiopia joined the association in January 2024.
