Thembinkosi Lorch will look back on the match against Manchester City with fond memories despite the negative result.

Unsurprisingly, the favourites, Manchester City, beat Wydad Casablanca 2-0 in their FIFA Club World Cup encounter played at the Lincoln Field in Philadelphia on Wednesday evening.

Lorch, who’s on loan at Wydad from Mamelodi Sundowns, started the match alongside another South African forward, Cassius Mailula.

The 31-year-old Lorch was rated the second-best player on the pitch by Sofascore, who put down a 7.6 rating out of 10, after Man City’s Phil Foden, who was marked 8.7.

In the first half, Lorch almost produced the goal of the tournament so far, attempting an audacious effort from inside the center circle in his own half that had Ederson, in goal for Man City, backpedaling, but the latter managed to save it.

In the end, the English team was just a class above the Moroccans.

Meanwhile, Egypt’s Al Ahly will be back in action when they take on Brazilian side Palmeiras at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

“We have to do our best to get a good result against one of the best teams in the tournament. Palmeiras have a fierce defence, the ability to press, and real courage,” says Al Ahly coach José Riveiro.
