Zimbabwe’s Football Association (ZIFA) has intervened after national team player Tinotenda Kadewere attacked sports journalist Yvonne Mangunda on Monday.

The incident happened at Orlando Stadium in Soweto, where the Warriors were training ahead of Tuesday’s FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda.

The 25-year-old allegedly confronted Mangunda, poking her in the chest and threatening to assault her in full view of stunned teammates and officials.

He was reportedly restrained by ZIFA officials before the situation escalated further. Kadewere, who plays for Greek club Aris, accused Mangunda of writing negative stories about his recent form and questioning his continued selection for the national team.

“The Zimbabwe Football Association notes with deep regret the incident that occurred at Orlando Stadium during the Warriors’ media open training session, involving national team player Tinotenda Kadewere and journalist Yvonne Mangunda,” Zifa responded.

“ZIFA strongly condemns any form of abuse towards the media. Journalists are a vital part of the game, and we are committed to ensuring they carry out their duties without fear or intimidation.

“The player has apologized to Ms. Mangunda, and an amicable understanding between the two parties has been reached. The matter is being addressed through the appropriate disciplinary processes by both the team management and the Association.

“We take full responsibility for upholding the highest standards of conduct within our teams and reaffirm our commitment to respectful engagement with all stakeholders.”
