Midfield talisman Kevin De Bruyne says he’s “surprised” that he was not offered a new deal by Manchester City.
The six-time Premier League champion will end his 10-year stay at the Etihad when the current season ends.
“There was a little bit of shock,” admitted De Bruyne to the media over the weekend. “I didn’t have any offer from them through the whole year, and the club made a decision. Obviously, I was a bit surprised, but I have to accept it.”
The 33-year-old Belgian has maintained that he’s still got a few years at the highest level.
“Honestly, I still think I can perform at this level, like I’m showing, but I understand that clubs have to make decisions,” he said.
As he alluded to on his social media post recently, “Whether we like it or not, it’s time to say goodbye.”
De Bruyne has made 416 appearances for City across all competitions since arriving at the club ten years ago from German side, VfL Wolfsburg. He has scored 107 goals and provided 177 assists.
