Netball South African president Cecilia Molokwane’s suspension by World Netball will not go unchallenged.

Widespread reports over the past couple of days have confirmed her suspension, but Netball South Africa (NSA) claims it’s unaware of the charges leveled against her.

Molokwane serves as NSA president as well as Africa Netball and also sits on the board of the international body.

It is alleged that her suspension stems from allegations that she’s “systematically removing people who she feels will not back her for a third term as president at the 2025 Netball SA elections.”

World Netball has also warned that South Africa could be suspended as a nation if NSA allows Molokwane to continue in her role, pending a disciplinary hearing.

NSA vice-president Mami Diale has since written to provincial presidents and chairpersons of districts to address the matter, stating she’s taken over NSA while seeking clarity from World Netball regarding Molokwane’s suspension.

“The vice-president shall assume responsibility for ensuring the continuity of all planned activities until the president is officially cleared to resume duties,” stated Diale in a letter sent on Saturday.

“World Netball officially informed the NSA board that they have placed the president of NSA, Africa Netball, and World Netball board member (Molokwane) under precautionary suspension, pending the outcome of an internal investigation and disciplinary hearing.

“(NSA) is engaging World Netball to get further clarity on the matter, yet we are unable to get further information on the allegations that prompted the suspension… (NSA) upholds the integrity and transparency of the organization while ensuring a fair and thorough process,” said Diale.
