Swiss coach Marcel Koller’s tenure with Al Ahly has come to an end, but the Red Devils have shown their gratitude in more ways than one after his achievements with the club.

Usually referred to as a thankless job, the day a coach leaves a certain club, it’s all quickly forgotten.

Al Ahly, however, are doing things differently.

In Egypt’s capital and the country’s largest city, Cairo, banners put up in honour of Koller are on display.

Nile FM has shown billboards displaying messages in recognition of Koller.

He was on the hot seat from September 2022 and won 11 titles, including the CAF Champions League on two occasions.

Al Ahly players have too paid tribute to Koller.

“Thank you for everything you’ve done for me and the club since day one. Your belief in me is something I’ll never forget. Wishing you the best wherever the future takes you,” wrote forward Wessam Abou Ali.

Al Ahly boss Mahmoud El Khatib was equally grateful to Koller and his technical team. “The club is a family. You’ll always have a place in it,” said El Khatib when he hosted their farewell.

For a “thankless job”, most would agree Koller got his flowers.
