Stellenbosch FC head coach Gavin Hunt is rooting for Mamelodi Sundowns to win the CAF Champions League.
Sundowns are in the final of Africa’s premium club competition and will meet Moroccan side FAR Rabat over two legs next month. The first leg will be played in South Africa.
Hunt says he is “sure” the Tshwane side can go one better and bring the title home, after settling for a runners-up spot last year.
“I mean, they’re a fantastic club, they’ve won the league now seven, eight years in a row. They’re right there again. They’re in the Champions League final, fantastic football club,” Hunt told he media in Pretoria after his side drew 1-1 with Sundowns in a league clash on Wednesday.
“You know, they put their money where their mouth is. They go out and they acquire big players that all of us can’t get. And you’ve got to give them credit. So, you know, to play lots of games, the best clubs in the world will play more games than clubs who don’t play.
“They’ve got a very good squad of players and they surely… you know, I’m sure they’ll do well, and I’m sure they’ll win the Champions League this year.”
Sundowns were also in the Champions League final last year, but missed out on the title to Egypt’s Pyramids.
