Limpopo mother arrested after killing toddler

A 40-year-old mother of three from Lwamondo Tshifulanani Village, Vuwani outside Thohoyandou in Limpopo has been charged with murder and appeared in the local magistrate court for the murder of her two-year-old toddler.

The suspect, identified as Tania Mandinda Dube, was remanded in custody until the third of October
for further police investigation and mental tests.
According to Police spokesperson, Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, a family member who had heard some
screams in the middle of the night went to investigate only to find the lifeless body of the little boy dumped at the entrance of the house.

The accused was sitting next to the body. He said police investigations led to her arrests. The two-year-old boy was identified as Maphanga Gundo.
“The motive behind this incident is still unknown but the on-going investigations will tell,” said Ngoepe.

He said that the police have condemned these acts of violent crimes perpetrated against children
in the strongest terms and advises the community to consult their local relevant professionals for
intervention in case of any social related issues instead of resorting to violence.

Early last month African Times reported that a 43-year-old father had hacked his three children to death
after a domestic dispute with his wife. The suspect, in this case, has since been sent for mental observation and further investigations.

“Members of the community are still advised and encouraged to consult their local relevant
professionals for intervention in case of any social related situation instead of resorting to violence.
“The motive behind this incident is still unknown but the on-going investigations will tell,” concluded
Ngoepe
