Mozambique is capable of ensuring food security not only for the countries of the Southern African Development Community and the African continent but also for the entire world.

“We are seeking to develop mechanised agriculture. We have significant potential for this, primarily in Gaza Province in the south of the country, Manica Province, as well as throughout the Zambezi River Valley in the central part of Mozambique and Niassa Province in the north. We believe that these territories should become the main centres of food production – not only to ensure Mozambique’s own food security, but also to meet the needs of the region, the entire African continent and the global market,” he stated.

The country has around 36 million hectares of arable land, but only about 15 per cent of this area is currently in use. Mozambique is interested in attracting major agricultural producers and investors, including from Russia and other BRICS countries.

“It is enough to look at these territories: there are vast areas of land suitable for growing a wide variety of agricultural crops that could help feed the entire world. However, of Mozambique’s 36 million hectares of arable land, only about 15 per cent is currently being used. This means that another 85 per cent of the land remains undeveloped. That is precisely why we came to Russia – to present this potential and attract investment in the agricultural sector,” Daniel Francisco Chapo said.

He also added that the country has opportunities to produce environmentally friendly food and supply it to global markets, which would contribute to improving people’s health around the world.
