Under fire crime expert Calvin Rafadi has reported that his Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp accounts were hacked by unknown individuals, submitting a sworn affidavit at Meadowlands Police Station on 5 December 2025. The affidavit, provided to African Times, confirms that the accounts may have been used to commit fraudulent or criminal activities in his name.

In the affidavit, Rafadi states that he became aware of the breach on 5 December 2025 after a friend alerted him through various social media platforms. He believes unauthorised individuals may be using or have used his accounts to carry out fraudulent, misleading, or criminal activities. He emphasises that any communications or activities conducted through these accounts are not authorised by him and do not reflect his intentions or views.

Rafadi says that as a public intellectual who frequently engages with members of the public, institutions, and the media, the misuse of his digital communication platforms poses a significant risk of deception to the public. He has therefore distributed the affidavit to relevant authorities and media platforms to raise awareness, protect the public, and prevent anyone from falling victim to potential criminal activity.

The affidavit further states that Rafadi reserves the right to pursue legal or criminal action against any individual or entity responsible for the unauthorised access or misuse of his accounts.

Rafadi resigned from the University of Johannesburg in October following allegations of corruption and collusion presented at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry. He denied the allegations and said he was unfairly implicated by the witness.

In the affidavit, Rafadi confirms that all facts stated are within his personal knowledge and are true and correct. He describes the steps he has taken to alert authorities and the public, and to prevent any unauthorised activity under his name through the compromised Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp accounts.

The affidavit concludes that Rafadi is raising awareness of the matter through the submission to the police and media platforms while reserving all rights to take legal action against those responsible for the hacking.
