The Minister of Police in South Africa has joined the chorus of those shooting down white genocide claims by US President Donald Trump.

Minister Senzo Mchunu says while his country has respect for the American people and its president, Trump, the claims of genocide are completely off the mark.

Mchunu made this remark before releasing the latest crime stats in Pretoria this morning where he admitted that the country is facing a crime crisis, but said it is not one race that is affected, but races across the board are victims.

“Now, we have respect for the United States of America as a country, we have respect for the people of the United States, and we have respect for the President of the United States, Donald Trump, but we have no respect for his genocide story whatsoever. It is totally unfounded and totally unsubstantiated,” Mchunu said.

Responding to claims by Trump during his White House meeting with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa that there are graves of white farmers lining along a road, Mchunu said that is not true as well.

He said the video Trump showed was taken during a protest by the farming community of Normandien near Newcastle in north-western KwaZulu-Natal after one of them was killed by three criminals who are now behind bars for the crime.

“It’s a sad story of Mr G Rafferty and Mrs GL Rafferty, they were sadly murdered in their home, the incident sparked a protest by the farming community in the area, the crosses symbolized killings on farms over years, they are not graves, they don’t represent graves and it was unfortunate that those facts got twisted to fit a false narrative about crime in South Africa,” Mchunu added.
