The University of Limpopo has confirmed that the 22-year-old woman found dead near its Mankweng campus on Sunday morning was a student at the institution, as police continue investigating the circumstances surrounding her death.

The university said the student’s family had been informed and expressed condolences to her relatives, friends, fellow students and colleagues.

22-Year-Old Woman Found Dead Near University of Limpopo Campus Fence

Police in Mankweng have opened an inquest after the body of a 22-year-old woman was discovered along the fence of the University of Limpopo campus outside Polokwane on Sunday morning.

Accordaning to Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, the woman was found at about 6am along Sovenga Street after police officers conducting patrols received information about a female lying motionless near the university fence.

A former Eskom employee has been sentenced to an effective 10 years in prison for her role in a fraudulent scheme that caused the power utility to lose approximately R1.8 million.

The Nelspruit court sentenced Cinderella Thabisile Muropane on Friday, 2 October 2026 after a Hawks investigation uncovered a scheme involving fraudulent invoices and payments processed for work that had not been performed.

Muropane was employed at Eskom’s Nelspruit offices when the alleged fraudulent transactions took place.
