South African football is gaining international recognition as Olwethu Makhanya, Mbekezeli Mbokazi and Relebohile Mofokeng continue to make their mark in overseas leagues, with individual accolades, impressive statistics and growing transfer valuations highlighting their progress.
Makhanya recently earned the Scottish Premiership Player of the Month award for September 2026 after helping Rangers maintain an impressive defensive record during a month in which the Glasgow giants won all four of their league matches.
The defender’s performances have strengthened his reputation in Scotland, where his consistency and defensive discipline have helped him establish himself at one of the country’s biggest football clubs.
According to transfer-value estimates reported by iDiski Times, Makhanya’s market value stands at approximately €14.3 million, equivalent to about R264 million. The estimate represents a substantial increase on the reported €3.5 million fee Rangers paid to sign him from Philadelphia Union.

Meanwhile, Mbekezeli Mbokazi is continuing his development in Major League Soccer with Chicago Fire after leaving Orlando Pirates for the United States.
The young centre-back’s growing reputation has attracted attention in transfer-value assessments. CIES Football Observatory estimates reported by iDiski Times place his value at approximately €20 million, or R373 million.
In Belgium, attacking midfielder and winger Relebohile Mofokeng is seeking to establish himself at Royale Union Saint-Gilloise after an outstanding domestic campaign with Orlando Pirates.
Mofokeng finished the 2025/26 league season with 10 goals and eight assists in 27 appearances, underlining his ability to contribute both as a goalscorer and a creator.
His early performances in Belgium have also been encouraging, with 2026/27 league statistics recording three goals and one assist in six appearances.

The 21-year-old further demonstrated his attacking potential on the international stage when he scored twice for Bafana Bafana in their 5-0 victory over Eritrea in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match on 30 September 2026.
FotMob’s reported valuation places Mofokeng at approximately €3.1 million, equivalent to about R57 million.
Although the three players occupy different positions and are developing in different football environments, their progress reflects the growing international visibility of South African talent.
Their progress also highlights the importance of youth development and providing emerging South African footballers with opportunities to compete against international opposition.
For South African football, their journeys represent more than individual success. They demonstrate the potential of locally developed talent to compete abroad, attract international attention and contribute to the country’s ambitions on the global stage.
