A 38-year-old Free State man accused of raping a woman in 2009 has been arrested after spending 17 years on the run, with police saying the case demonstrates that suspects wanted for serious crimes can still be brought to justice years after the alleged offences.

Tshediso Emmanuel Makamole was arrested at about 8.30 pm on Tuesday in Phase 10, Mangaung, after members of the Free State Provincial Tracking Team received information about his whereabouts.
