More than R200 million worth of cocaine has been seized at OR Tambo International Airport in two separate interceptions, as police intensify efforts to disrupt international drug trafficking networks using South Africa’s busiest airport.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) said the cocaine was intercepted on Tuesday, 25 August 2026, during operations involving a multidisciplinary team at the airport, including Customs officials.

The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has secured acknowledgements of debt from two service providers and recovered more than R3.3 million linked to the overcharging of the University of Fort Hare for student accommodation.
