Police in Vhembe, Limpopo, have intercepted a suspected dagga smuggling operation and seized nearly a tonne of the illegal drug with an estimated street value of R1.5 million.
The seizure was made on Friday, 18 September, when members of the South African Police Service’s Beitbridge Port of Entry Task Team stopped a white Toyota Hilux at a roadblock at the Baobab Tollgate at about 11 am.

Suspended Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) deputy chief Julius Mkhwanazi has been fired by the City of Ekurhuleni, ending months of disciplinary proceedings while he faced several criminal cases.
Mkhwanazi had been on suspension and receiving his full salary for about 10 months before the municipality terminated his employment.
His dismissal comes as he remains in custody following the rejection of his bail application in the murder case involving Brakpan businessman Emmanuel Mbense.
