Manamela Orders Urgent Intervention as CPUT Shutdown Deepens After Arson Attack
Higher Education and Training Minister Buti Manamela has ordered an urgent departmental intervention at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) as the institution remains shut down following an arson attack at its Bellville campus.
Manamela has directed a team from the Department of Higher Education and Training’s University Education Branch to work with CPUT management, the university council and student leadership to find a way out of the escalating crisis.

South African National Parks (SANParks) has warned visitors to the Kruger National Park against ignoring road closures, removing “no entry” signs or driving through restricted areas, saying such actions are placing tourists, rangers and other staff at risk while putting additional pressure on already stretched resources.
The warning comes as the park continues its extensive infrastructure recovery programme following severe flooding in January, with repairs expected to cost about R950 million.

Hichilema Declared Winner of Zambia’s Presidential Election
Lusaka — President Hakainde Hichilema has been declared the winner of Zambia’s August 13 presidential election, securing a second term in office.
According to the final results announced by the Electoral Commission of Zambia, Hichilema polled 2,967,326 votes, representing 60.7 percent, while his closest challenger, Brian Mundubile, received 1,856,217 votes, or 38.0 percent.
The results cover all 226 constituencies, with Hichilema winning 124 constituencies against Mundubile’s 102.
